YouTube ads work best for bike brands. Their job is to make your name known so people search for it later, and they need to start a few weeks before a peak, because they don’t show results straight away. In the four bike shop accounts I’ve run over the last four years, YouTube plays the same role, follows the same timing and has the same rule as it does for toy stores: it’s for brands.

This post is part of the complete guide to Google Ads for bike shops.

Should every bike shop run YouTube ads?

No. Bike brands should focus more on YouTube; resellers should focus more on Gmail.

If you sell your own bikes, YouTube builds the thing you’ll collect later: searches for your brand. If you resell other brands, the manufacturers already make their own videos, and someone who remembers a bike from a video can buy it from any shop. For resellers, Gmail ads and Search do more with the same money.

In the accounts I run, Demand Gen and YouTube together get about 20% of the budget, after roughly 50% for Search and 30% for Shopping or Performance Max. Brands put most of that 20% into YouTube and Discover.

When should a bike brand start YouTube ads?

A few weeks before each peak, because YouTube needs time before it shows any lift:

  • Before Black Friday, start in the quiet autumn months. In the bike accounts I run, late September and October have low CPCs, while CPCs around Black Friday are about double. Building demand in autumn costs much less than buying it in November.
  • Before spring, the same logic applies: start before the weather turns. Sales jump with the first sunny days, so the ads need to have run by then.

What should a bike YouTube ad show?

Show the bike being ridden, where your buyers actually ride, and answer the questions that hold back an expensive purchase:

  • Real riding: commuting, trails, gravel roads, family rides. Match the footage to the bike type.
  • Fit and sizing: who the bike is for, and how to choose the right frame size.
  • For e-bikes, range and charging: how far it goes and how long charging takes.
  • Why buy from you: delivered ready to ride, warranty, returns, payment options.

Use the first seconds to show the riding. The brand can come once people are watching.

How do you measure YouTube ads for a bike brand?

Measure searches for your brand. YouTube’s job is to build demand that Search and Shopping collect:

  • Brand searches in your Search campaigns and in Google Search Console, compared with the weeks before the campaign and the same period last year.
  • Sales from brand searches during the peak that follows.
  • Results in Shopping and Performance Max for the bikes you promoted.

Judged on last-click sales alone, YouTube will look like a loss. Compare it against your break-even ROAS at the level of the whole account instead.

How does YouTube fit with other bike shop campaigns?

YouTube runs first, then Discover and Gmail remind people shortly before the peak, and Search and Shopping collect the sales. For the budget split and the full year, read the complete guide to Google Ads for bike shops.

FAQ

Should every bike shop advertise on YouTube?

No. YouTube suits bike brands, because it builds demand for a name people will search for later. Resellers of other brands usually get more from Gmail, Search and Shopping.

When should a bike brand start YouTube ads before Black Friday?

A few weeks before, in the quiet autumn months. YouTube doesn't show results straight away, and late September and October have much lower CPCs than Black Friday week.

What should a bike YouTube ad show?

The bike being ridden where your buyers ride: commuting, trails, gravel roads. Add what matters for the decision: range for e-bikes, sizing, and price or payment options.

How do you measure YouTube ads for a bike brand?

Watch searches for your brand and the sales that come from them, before and after the campaign. YouTube rarely gets the last click, so direct sales undervalue it.
